My Approach

I am an integrative psychotherapist using a wide range of therapeutic modalities all of which I integrate into a trauma informed approach. I am happy to work short or long term and to use the therapeutic approach most suited to your cognitive style and the type of issues you bring. I enjoy helping a client find the skills, techniques and insights that gives them the ability to manage their emotions more effectively, have greater choices in how they behave and gain a more fulfilling life.

About Me

I have been a registered psychotherapist for over 30 years in both the NHS and in private practice. Since 2001 I have been a Humanistic and Integrative supervisor of psychotherapists who are at different stages in their career path. I am working predominantly online still as my clients find this way of working just as effective as face to face and it cuts down on their travel.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I aim to help you understand your anxiety and explore the many ways in which you can relieve your symptoms. This could be using Hypnopsychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy, CBT or many other tried and tested approaches. This enables you to understand the difference between appropriate anxiety in reaction to a current threat and an unwanted or over reaction to perceived threats in the past, present or future.
My integrative approach to depression aims to give you insight into the cause of your depression as well as techniques and strategies for relieving your symptoms of depression. Then we will explore the ways in which you can prevent, reduce and shorten future episodes of depression.
I treat PTSD with a trauma informed and Integrative approach. I use EMDR as it is one of the most effective forms of therapy in Trauma and when combined with a unified psychotherapeutic approach it becomes even more effective. I work with people who have had a single traumatic experience as well as those who have complex trauma stemming from multiple sources over multiple years.
Good relationships are the best therapy for all mental health issues and so it is not surprising that toxic or difficult relationships are found in so many people experiencing a range of psychological problems. Relating to another person is the most complex and complicated thing we ever do and I use an integrative approach to enable you to understand/read relationships more easily, understand and change if necessary what you bring into relationships and so enable you to have the fulfilling relationships you want.
I have been a clinical supervisor of different Professions Allied to Medicine in the NHS in the past and now I focus on supervising psychotherapists at all stages of their career development. I qualified as a Humanistic and Integrative supervisor of individuals and groups in 2000 and I have over 30 years experience as a psychotherapist. I enjoy sharing my experiences with my supervisees. I hope my supervisees find me to be supportive, enabling and encouraging. I can be challenging when required as I always remember that it is your client who is the focus of our work together.
