My Approach

I was originally trained in Gestalt Therapy but tend to work more in an Integrative style, having picked up various bits of theory and technique from different modalities over many years.

About Me

For me, therapy is about my clients and myself working together to sort out difficulties, both being experts in our own ways. I try to be my 'real,' open self in an attempt to develop a climate of warmth and trust. I used to be a Child Protection Social Worker and have worked as a therapist and trainer for two decades (alongside being a school counselor, community worker, FE tutor, team builder and therapeutic dance facilitator) so I'm not easily fazed and work with a range of problems experienced by individuals and couples.

My passion is stress management (having 'overdone it' and becoming seriously ill as a social worker) which I taught in an FE college. I've also been a mindfulness teacher since 2014 and find that mindfulness tools enhance my therapy work beautifully.

I am the author of two books, 'Rocking with the Reaper', a memoir about my heath and hospital experiences which also refers to my travels in Asia, growing up in 1970's working class Yorkshire, quantum physics, developing a mindful way of being and many other aspects of psychology including attachment theory, intergenerational dynamics, mind-body connections and neuroscience. With its positive slant on human nature, the book offers hope for humanity!) My second book, 'Little Frog and the Secret Magic,' is a mindfulness book for children with exercises designed to enhance psychological and physiological awareness and wellbeing.

I love my work, am very sociable whilst also loving the quiet serenity of our natural world, I enjoy being musical and creative and like to 'do my bit' for others/our creatures and planet where I can.

I work from a purpose-built, heated cabin in my garden, where birds and squirrels help to create a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have had health issues all my adult life so know how it is to have a chronic illness and have had to find ways of managing my own for many years.
I'm a trained couples counsellor with many years' experience.
I've been teaching stress management and self-care in a range of settings - including my therapy room- for two decades.
Having worked with a lot of trauma over three decades and also experienced trauma and Post Traumatic Stress myself, I feel very equipped for dealing with it.
I've spent two decades working for EAP's doing short-term. focused counseling for employees from a range of workplace settings.
