My approach to therapy incorporates training in Counselling, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Attachment Theory, and experience of working in Therapeutic Communities. I integrate these influences in how I work with people. I'm always interested in understanding a persons early experience of care and believe strongly in how attachment disruptions can affect people throughout their life cycle. I think the most important part of trying to help people with psychotherapy, is to really listen to what someone is communing and developing a trusting therapeutic relationship.
I have retired from NHS work after 35 years continuous service as a mental health nurse and psychotherapist. Specialising in working with people who had drug dependency problems, self harm and relationship difficulties
I now offer a private psychotherapy practice from a dedicated room at home which is in a very private setting or remotely via Zoom video calls.
I have provided consultancy work and reflective practice groups with the Greater Manchester Probation Service for 10 years. I have taught on Clinical Psychology Doctorate training at Manchester and Liverpool Universities for the past 10 years. I provide Clinical Supervision for several professional groups including staff working at 42nd Street in Manchester - a young people's mental health charity.
I currently offer free psychotherapy to NHS staff affected by the Covid pandemic via Frontline 19.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
