My Approach

My work is integrative and person centred, which allows for flexibility, adapting to the needs of the client. The basis of the therapeutic work may include using a combination of creative resources, such as role play or games to explore the difficulties for school aged clients. When working with clients over the age of 16 the intended approach is talking therapy.

About Me

I am a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist who works with clients of all ages. My speciality is Educational Psychotherapy. I started my career as a secondary school teacher who developed a passion for working with children with special educational needs. I have over 20 years experience working in a variety of settings, ranging from Mainstream, Pupil Referral Unit, Special Schools and Local Authorities. My roles within these settings have been wide and varied, Head of Department, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), Specialist Advisory Teacher and more.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I am familiar with the range of difficulties that adopted children may experience. Such as separation, loss, attachment and more which can affect them over a long period of time in different ways. When they are given the opportunity to explore some of these difficulties it can help them to pull together those missing pieces of the jigsaw puzzle, make sense of self and the world around them.
My years of working as a teacher and as a therapist I have encountered so many young people with whom anxiety presents significant challenges. It is important to address any signs of anxiety to prevent it from escalating and also giving the person the necessary tools to help them manage the anxiety.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) impacts significantly on young people, especially during and after the pandemic. These traumatic experiences can leave them feeling insecure, vulnerable and unable to trust. My aim is to re-build trust, a sense of safety to support them with moving on from the traumatic event/s.
