Sometimes it can be hard to talk about how we’re feeling to the people closest to us, even the person we love, our family or friends, having someone impartial who is trained to listen and won’t judge you, can help you make sense of what you’re going through from the smallest concerns to something really troubling you and you feel is a crisis in your life.
I tend to specialise in working with clients who are struggling to make progress in the world or become the person they want to be despite having everything going for them.
Life can feel overwhelming at times. Sometimes we have to turn and face our challenges and learn to trust ourselves to find a way through. The good news is, you can.
And I’m here to help you do just that.
I resonate with deep thinkers and deep feelers, people who are sensitive and need greater stability and structure within themselves and in their world.
Sensitive people can easily feel overwhelmed leading them to withdraw into themselves. Highly Sensitive People (HSP) can retreat from living their life to the full or may seek solace in recreational drugs.
Learning to embrace your sensitivity can help you feel more grounded, more secure in yourself and find fulfilment in your life.
To begin the process I usually like to start with a phone call as this helps to get a sense of where you’re coming from and if you feel we’d work well together. I encourage clients to commit to six sessions initially, once a week. This is because it gives enough time to make an assessment and really explore what you’d like to talk about in a steady and safe way. It’s a place where concerns can rise to the surface and it’s good to trust what comes up in sessions.
My approach is rooted in the integrative-transpersonal view. This means I use a range of different approaches (integrative) to shape and guide my understanding of what you need which helps me work with you.
We are much more than our conscious personality and there is much more going on with all of us than the persona we present to the world (transpersonal).
What I offer is a process to discover who you really are, find your natural self and express this in a way that is authentic and resonates with you to create a happier life.
I trained at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London completing a Foundation Course followed by a six-year Diploma in Integrative-Transpersonal Psychotherapy, this included practical experience in clinical and psychiatric placements.
I am an accredited CCPE therapist and hold clinical membership with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy) and am subject to their Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
I have worked for Fresh Start Psychotherapy (a low cost service for vulnerable people) and Kids Company with Camila Bathmanghelidje, the Leicestershire Youth Offending Service and attended placements at St John of God Psychiatric Hospital in Dublin.
All psychotherapists are required to go through psychotherapy themselves and CCPE in particular put emphasis on this form of training to ensure we bring neutrality to the work, as well as empathy for going through the process itself which I understand can be a nerve-wracking experience.
I have a particular interest in the healing power of the natural world and aligning ourselves with those rhythms, it’s why a walk in the countryside is so healing. Studying a more holistic approach to psychotherapy, looking at diet, lifestyle choices and being more in balance with the natural world when we live an age of increasing urbanisation and a reliance on technology. Modern life has isolated us from nature for which we have a sympathetic resonance.
My sabbatical studies of the healing practices of the Shipibo tribe in the Upper Amazon has influenced my view of the healing process and what is possible for people. I have a professional interest in the emerging interplay between these indigenous healing practices and modern psychiatry.
Having lived and worked in London I now run a private practice in Gloucestershire and enjoy the cold winter mornings surrounded by my history books and the peaceful idyll.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
