My therapeutic approach is Integrative and trauma-informed. I blend approaches and ideas from both humanistic and psychodynamic therapies, as I believe in your capacity to grow within a therapeutic relationship, and tailor my approach to your particular situation and needs. You and I would work together to explore your current issues, and any underlying factors, within the context of your own particular socio-cultural environment, and personal history. I take into account your developmental and relational history, and the role of trauma, and draw on understanding of the effect of trauma on the body, neuroscience and relational dynamics, including attachment theory. This would all enable you to gain insight into your difficulties, to rediscover and develop internal resources, and improve your ability to function, make changes and approach life in a more effective and satisfying way.
I am qualified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which I increasingly use with clients for processing traumatic experience.
I offer an initial telephone consultation (15-20 mins, no charge) after which we may agree to have initial session(s), prior to deciding whether we are a sufficient 'match' and want to work together. We will then agree a contract, whether to work with a short (12-16) or medium term contract (20-40 sessions). I am not using open-ended contracts at present. My fees are £70 per 50 min session.
I am an integrative and trauma-informed counsellor and psychotherapist with 17 years experience of seeing clients in both private practice and NHS (GP practice). I work with clients on self and relationship issues, which often have their roots in experiences which were overwhelming or traumatic.
I have a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy from Metanoia Institute (Distinction), and am a registered with UKCP as a Full Clinical Psychotherapist (from 2016). I have an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (2006). I have been accredited by British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred) since 2009, and am registered on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Certificate No 18680). I abide by BACP and UKCP Code of Ethics. Before becoming a counsellor/psychotherapist I worked in education (secondary and tertiary) for more than 20 years.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
