I approach therapy in a very open way and trust that we will build a way of working together that suits us both. Every therapeutic relationship is unique and I want to meet you where you are.
As a therapist, I aim to invite all aspects of you into the room: the hurt and wounded, the scared and anxious but also the joyful and happy parts too. All of you is welcome here and there are no subjects that cannot be explored.
You might come to therapy because you are experiencing difficult or unbearable feelings, or perhaps you would like to understand yourself more deeply or find meaning in your life. There is no right or wrong reason to try therapy.
Core Process therapy draws on both eastern and western psychology, integrating Buddhist teachings with those from more contemporary theorists - a combination of modern scientific insight and age-old wisdom.
I often use embodiment and mindfulness - paying attention to what is happening in the present moment, especially in the body. This can help us to see below the story to reveal a deeper understanding of what we experience. Using our felt sense can also help to connect to earlier life experiences that are playing a part in the present.
My approach has a sensitivity to trauma and the way in which overwhelming experiences can resurface in the present. It’s my priority to look after you in our sessions and ensure we go at a pace that feels manageable.
Core Process therapy holds that we all have intrinsic health - a central wellness and goodness that becomes obscured over time as we meet difficult experiences and form protective patterns. It is as much our work to discover and soften these patterns as it is to allow wellness to rise to the surface. We can also explore the aspects of life that drive and inspire passion in you - we sometimes bury the good stuff as much as we bury the bad.
I typically work with clients for periods of six months to a year or more. While I am open to shorter relationships, I find deep and lasting change happens slowly and subtly over time. I also recognise that therapy is expensive so it’s worth considering the long-term nature of the work before you begin.
I offer a free, 30 minute, intro session where we can explore how we might work together. As the relationship between client and therapist is so important, this allows both of us to decide whether we would be a good fit for one another.
If you would like to start working with me, we will meet on a weekly basis for 1 hour at the same time each week. Therapy will continue as long as you find it helpful. I like to review our work periodically to ensure it’s meeting your needs.
As a therapist, I offer a compassionate and spacious environment where you can bring all aspects of yourself. Every part of you is welcome here and there are no subjects that cannot be explored. You might come to therapy because you are experiencing difficult or unbearable feelings or perhaps you would like to understand yourself more deeply or find meaning in your life. There is no right or wrong reason to try therapy.
All are welcome to start therapy with me. I have particular interest and experience working with people with addictive behaviours and those who are diagnosed as or suspect they are neurodivergent.
I am a UKCP accredited Psychotherapist with a Postgraduate Diploma in Core Process Psychotherapy.
