My Approach

My approach is based around the client’s individual needs, and ranges from supportive counselling, through psychotherapy, to in-depth analytical work using dreams. Dreams are emotional snapshots which show the current situation but which also contain potential growing points in the personality, They can be most helpful if someone feels stuck.
However, dream work is not for everyone - I am guided by what helps the person most. I am rooted in classical Jungian theory but am very interested in neuroscience, neurodiversity and trauma work. I am open to approaches other than my own and will use any technique which truly helps my client.
I work with all ages, from 16 upwards.
Above all I strive to create a safe therapeutic space and a good rapport, so that people who work with me can explore their life situation with openness, curiosity and trust.

About Me

I am a Jungian analyst. I am a senior analyst with the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists. My background prior to training was in music and in teaching.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Many people have experienced abuse - sexual, emotional or both. It can leave deep traces in the personality - sometimes even hidden from the person themselves - and lead to ineradicable feelings of anxiety and shame. Work to undo the damage is multifaceted, careful and gradual, but change can come.
Modern life is permeated with anxiety and it can be hard to find a calm foothold, especially if one’s upbringing was in an anxiety-ridden space. Uncovering the roots of anxiety enables understanding. There are physical techniques which can really help too.
I have a special interest in cancer patients, but prefer to widen this field to include anyone who suffers from chronic illness and its ongoing impact on their life.
Depression is very hard to live with, and emotional support helps, alongside medication and a careful exploration of the roots of this condition. Depression can sometimes be a ‘message in a bottle’ from deeper in the psyche, indicating that something in the person’s way of living and thinking needs to change. Sometimes, as in bereavement, depression is a natural state and has its own seasons, to be respected and worked through.
Trauma can relate to a single event or to many small ones. It reaches deep into the body as well as the mind. Where necessary I would be happy to work alongside an EMDR specialist
