Taking that first step can feel daunting, but talking to someone who isn't involved with your everyday life can help you untangle your thoughts and feelings and find much needed space to reflect and make changes in your life. It is essentially about getting to know, like and trust ourselves, so we can weather life’s inevitable ups and downs. It is not about fixing who we are, but more reframing and reclaiming who we want to be.
How I work...We’ll meet for an initial session – it’s really important that you feel we can work well together.
My approach is both collaborative and down to earth and I tailor a bespoke programme using relevant psychotherapy techniques from traditional talking therapies, including the psychodynamic and humanistic approaches, to the creative imagination, the body and mindfulness techniques.
This integrative approach emphasises the uniqueness of each person and each couple and is well established through years of training and experience. It's all about finding a way of working that best suits you.
Perhaps you have a specific issue to unpack, and you'd like a few sessions and practical tools to help, or it may be you'd like support exploring more intense life changes, so moving through difficult feelings to create a new way of being means working together over a longer period of time.
Training Qualifications & Experience
The Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education, where I trained, is a centre for integrative and transpersonal training and is a registered organisation of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I am an accredited CCPE psychotherapist, working with both individuals and couples. I'm a registered member of both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Centre for Psychotherapy (UKCP). And abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am subject to their Professional Conduct procedure.
I've previously worked at The Maudsley Hospital The Tree of Life programme; the Cardinal Hume, a homeless charity in Pimlico; Freshstart, a counselling and psychotherapy service at the CCPE in Little Venice; The Caravan, a drop-in counselling service in Piccadilly, and Trinity Hospice in Clapham. I did my psychiatric placement at The Maudsley Hospital, in Camberwell, London.
I also hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in history and music.
Areas of Speciality
I work with a variety of issues but my areas of speciality include anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, eco anxiety and stress and relationship difficulties, both in personal life - and at work.
My Background
I was a BBC TV producer and print journalist before training as a psychotherapist so I bring to my work an awareness of the challenges associated with working in both a creative and corporate environment. Because of this one of my areas of interest is workplace stress and burn out and I have recently designed a stress management course, particularly for those working in the creative industries.
I also create and run workshops on a variety of topics from money to mothers and I am particularly interested in working with eco anxiety and to exploring the emotional and psychological impact of living with our present environmental emergency. I am also a New Zealander who has been living in London for 25 years, so I appreciate the issues associated with emigrating and living far away from home.
Fees
50-minute sessions on Zoom or face to face, depending on the time of day. A lower fee may be negotiable for those on lower incomes or who are unemployed. Payment is by either bank transfer, or cash.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
