About Me

As a psychotherapist and specialist clinician in mental health I have a strong and passionate commitment to ensuring that people with emotional, psychological and relationship difficulties get the most effective help they need. I want to make sure those seeking assistance get the most effective and useful help you can for the difficulties you are facing. I also want to ensure that those engaging in training, education and supervision get the most beneficial and effective provision to develop as clinicians.

My current practice is largely based in Derby City in the UK where I see patients, and engage in teaching, education and research. I also supervise practitioners, and offer strategic and organisational consultancy. Much of my time is spent with Cathexis Psychotherapy, a social enterprise, where I am Director and Lead Consultant. Additionally I work with the Psychotherapy Foundation, an organisation working to promote, support and develop the use of safe, effective, evidence-based treatments, and the proper and sound governance of these treatments, where I am Chair and Senior Consultant.

I am a qualified clinician and psychotherapist, with substantial experience and training. For the major part of my career I worked in the NHS as a psychotherapist and specialist in psychotherapy. More recently I had a senior and lead role in specialist NHS psychotherapy and psychological therapies across Derby City and Derbyshire.

I work with a range of other organisations and professional bodies. I have been a member and vice-Chair of the Ethics Committee of UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), Council Member and Chair of Ethics for UPCA (Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association) which is a Organisational Member of UKCP, and a member of the Executive Committee for the UTC (Universities Training College) which is the College host for UPCA. Currently I have a particular interest in the ethics of competence and the ethics of effectiveness.
