My Approach

I practice Transactional Analysis (TA) which is a form of talking therapy where the focus is on personal growth and change. I promote wellbeing and assist individuals on their journey to reach their full potential, TA is widely used and recognised as an effective and successful form of therapy.

TA works on the principles that:
Everyone is OK, in that they have value, worth and dignity.
Everyone, except the severely brain damaged, has the capacity to think.
Everyone can change. (Berne,1966)

We will work together using these principles.

I also like to bring creativity into our work. This might include art, writing, music or movement.

About Me

Hello.
I'm Sharon and I am a qualified psychotherapist. I whole heartedly believe in therapy and its ability to change lives. This was and still is, my motivation for training in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy. I have experienced how positive, transformative and to be honest, sometimes painful the therapy process can be but I believe the process is worthwhile.

For 18 years I dedicated myself to working in the NHS in various roles. From working in hospital wards and clinics as an assistant technical officer with the lung function team to more recently as an assistant practice manager of a GP surgery in Nottingham. A high standard of patient care and support had been the philosophy of my NHS career. This still continues in my work as a psychotherapist.

I offer a free initial telephone or video call for us to have a chat about what you would like to achieve from therapy and whether I am able to help you. This gives you an opportunity to get a sense of me and how I work and to ask any questions to see if we can work together. This lasts approximately 15 minutes.

I provide both face to face and online appointments. Please note that the building I practice from has many steps. If this is a problem for you, please contact me as I can provide an alternative location.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety can feel frightening, overwhelming and exhausting. Psychotherapy can help you feel calmer and understand why these anxious feelings are happening for you.
Loss of all kinds is hard. Whether it's a loved one dying, a relationship ending or a redundancy, it isn't always easy to talk to a family member or friend about your loss. It can seem like the world is carrying on as normal and you are left behind. Psychotherapy can help you process the waves of grief you may be experiencing and provide a space to talk about your loss.
I have experience of working with those who have been given a life limiting or terminal diagnosis. Psychotherapy can help you come to terms with your diagnosis and prioritise what you would like from life.
