About Me

I am a psychotherapist working privately and within the NHS. I have worked with clients experiencing anything from depression and anxiety, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties to major psychiatric illnesses such as anorexia, the legacy of childhood sexual abuse and a personality disorder.
In my private practice, I aim to create a safe, confidential space in which you can explore difficulties without pressure. Through developing a relationship of trust, you are enabled to work through thoughts and feelings that may be troubling you and maintaining stuck patterns of reaction and behaviour. Gradually, self esteem and confidence grows and you are able to find more flexible ways of responding to life challenges.
Finding the right therapist - and therapy type - can be hard. Long experience conducting assessments within the NHS and elsewhere enables me to work with you to explore whether I am a good person for you to see at this moment, or whether another therapist - or therapy type - might be more helpful. I will try to signpost you on to something more suitable wherever possible.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I worked for Cruse for many years and have a particular interest in bereavement. I have worked with clients suffering bereavement of all kinds, and have also specialised in working with individuals and families bereaved by suicide.
I have experience of working with people with cancer of many kinds, and at different stages of treatment, from diagnosis and treatment, to living with and managing a long-term condition.
Depression and anxiety have formed part of the pattern of most clients I have worked with.
I have worked in the NHS for patients with complex trauma, who have formal or informal diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD). I have experience of working with the particular patterns of feeling/reaction/behaviour that can be caused by trauma, and have learned something about different strategies that might support a person to best manage the impact of it.
