My Approach

For therapy to be impactful and effective I base my work on building trusting relationships. From this therapeutic relationship we can build the safety needed to explore difficult emotions and painful and traumatic experiences. For younger children it's essential to create trust with the child and their parents, and with teenagers creating confidential spaces to reflect and share. I see my role in any child and adolescent work to support parents alongside the work to better understand the difficulties their child or teenager is experiencing, and the ways these are communicated in their daily lives.

My empathy and sensitivity enables clients to makes sense of, and manage, their feelings and experiences whilst using a playful approach to encourage clients to be curious about their inner world. I work relationally using the mediums of play and the arts to deepen the relationship, and offer ways to explore and integrate experiences by using; sand tray, paint, clay, masks, storytelling, music and drama.

About Me

I'm a UKCP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. I have worked with children and families for nearly 25 years, initially training and working as a youth worker, and I then worked in the field of child bereavement for 14 years. More recently I worked as the Clinical Lead in an NHS commissioned tier 2 child and adolescent mental health service. I've worked in private practice for 5 years as a Psychotherapist, and have additionally been working with fostering and adoption services.

I specialise in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy with children from aged 3 years, teenagers and adults using play, arts, talking therapy and attachment based approaches. I offer short and long term child psychotherapy to meet the needs of the child and family. I also offers parents and carers a space for support and reflection, and can link in with wider networks around a child or young person.

I hold a diploma in clinical supervision and work with individual therapists and professionals, as well as group supervision and reflective spaces for teams.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have been working with families supported by the Adoption Support fund, delivering individual psychotherapy to children and teenagers, therapeutic parenting, and undertaking attachment focused assessments. I've also delivered EMDR to this client group.
I worked for 14 years with bereaved families, delivering counselling and psychotherapy to individuals of all ages. I worked with families to explore the impact of grief and loss and I've delivered specialist work to those bereaved by suicide, homicide, and with military families. I have extensive experience delivering group work and have consulted schools and professionals during traumatic community events.
I am a qualified EMDR therapist for adults and have completed additional training fro EMDR with children and teenagers, and for complex trauma presentations. I have nearly 5 years experience of delivering EMDR.
I have a Diploma in Child, Adolescent and Adult Supervision. For the past 18 months I've been supervising a range of counsellors and therapists working for a South East Charity. Their therapists work within primary and secondary schools, and within Tier 2 commissioned mental health services for children and teenagers. I've worked with individuals and groups, and delivered reflective practice groups for wider professionals.
I've worked with traumatised children and families for 16 years, working with bereaved families impacted by traumatic events, and with individuals experiencing PTSD from single event trauma and complex trauma from childhood abuse. I
