A therapeutic relationship can be the beginning of your journey of recovery. I see my role as a facilitator - someone who helps you move beyond any barriers that might be holding you back from living a more satisfying life. No matter what you are struggling with there is help available for you.
Most clients I work with have struggles with anxiety/ depression/ trauma/ relationships/ abuse/ OCD and GAD/ addiction.
In all of my work the confidentiality of the client is maintained. With all of my potential clients I will carry out an initial assessment session where I will find out what is currently troubling them and difficulties that they might have experienced in the past. Based on the initial assessment I will suggest a treatment plan and if the client is in agreement then we will proceed with the treatment.
For short-term work we will be more focussed on what we are hoping to achieve based on the limited timeframe (Generally 6 to 8 sessions). However, at any point a client can chose to change focus or extend the number of sessions.
For long-term work there is less need to be focussed on a session by session basis what the client wants to achieve as surprisingly enough stuff comes up that was never anticipated which provides rich territory for exploring and personal growth.
Issues such as anxiety/ depression/ OCD and GAD/ addiction can benefit from the application of tools and techniques once the full extent of the condition is understood and this might take the form of procedures to be carried on outside of the therapy space.
Individual therapy can be short-term or long-term depending on the nature of the issues; couple therapy is generally short-term and focussed on the relationship; although, individual or group therapy might be recommended. Group therapy is generally suggested after some individual therapy and it can be valuable for many individuals who suffer from social anxiety, lack of assertiveness, depression, anxiety, difficulty with others such as intolerance and rigidity in thinking. It is also a good place to learn about the self and others in real time and experiment with aspects of the self that you would like to develop.
I am a member of the Institute of Group Analysis and I am accredited with the UKCP.
My training looked at the individual and the influences the group had on them from birth to present and any repeating patterns that they were playing out in their life that they are unaware of. Groups have negative and positive impacts on individuals and this begins with the family of origin. Traumas-big and small-in life can have long lasting effects on a person's life and this can be a lot of what is explored in therapy. However, we are not looking to place blame but to become aware of these influences and hopefully modify their impact if they are detrimental in nature.
I have also completed a Couples Training Course with the Grove which gave me greater insight into how to work with couples and their unique relational difficulties.
As of January 2023, I have completed a certification in Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) Training
Course: Applied Neuroscience for Treating Anxiety, Panic, and Worry which has given me greater insight into the neurological aspects of anxiety and provided me with a larger toolbox for working with client with anxiety.
I have worked for over nine years with groups and individuals in the NHS and private practice. I work with individuals, couples and groups providing short-term and long-term counselling and therapy. I work face to face, video online and telephone calls.
I have a special interest in working with individuals that are suffering from anxiety and depression as I see these as two main conditions that stop individuals from living a more joyful and harmonious existence.
