My Approach

My approach uses Gestalt psychotherapy, and starts from the belief that there may be nothing wrong with you, but that some of your current approaches to your life issues and relationships may need updating.
Creating self-awareness is the first step, leading to greater choices.
One of the most important aspects of therapy for a client is to experience the attention of another human being who is consistently there without judgment or agenda.
In this way, you can explore feelings, some of which are not easy, and many which have been buried for a long time. Like anxiety, and depression, confusion, and all too often exhaustion from trying to find your way through these alone.

About Me

My clients usually want deep and systemic change in their lives, have unmanageable feelings, or are in dissatisfying situations. Often they have tried other ways to feel better, and feel really stuck. They usually come for long term therapy, are open to working through difficulties, and exploring new ways to seeing things.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Integrative counselling, a Post Graduate Diploma and an MA in Gestalt Psychotherapy. I am registered and accredited as a psychotherapist with UKCP, and work within their code of ethics.
I have had a career in the media, including performance arts, music, and production, and can offer specialist support to people in performance related situations - for example dealing with external and internal pressures, self image, perfectionism, and the contradictions created by apparent success and failure.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety comes into most people's experience of living. It can be seen as a useful tool to alert you to danger, but it also can get too easily triggered, leading to panic attacks, or inability to live your life how you want to. Gently exploring this together builds support and increases your tolerance for difficult situations and triggers.
Depression can be so hard to live with, but it can be shifted over time, with care, attention, and sometimes gentle challenge. I believe depression is often a sane response to an insane situation. Rather than a sign that something is wrong with you, it's actually a healthy response which indicates the need for change.
Nearly all my work has involved looking at the family system, and slowly uncovering insights to gain an understanding of how the past affects the present.
I believe that the essential relationship to heal is the one with yourself. From this all other relationship issues emerge. I feel hugely supportive and encouraging when someone wants to feel better about themselves, and is prepared to come to therapy to try and work on that.
