Hello and thanks for checking out my profile. There's lots of reasons why you might be thinking of contacting me for help – a recent life crisis, relationship problems, emotional difficulties, excessive worrying and anxiety, unresolved issues from the past, depressed mood and lack of motivation, trauma and abuse – or perhaps you don't know what it is exactly .. just a sense that something is ‘not right’. But whatever the reason and whether or not we decide to work together, you will want your therapist to be warm and approachable, to be someone you can trust and feel safe with, and to feel confident that they know how to help you - or will be upfront and say if they cannot.
My approach is relational and developmental and combines humanistic and psychodynamic thinking. This means I believe relationships are central to how we form our identify and sense of self, and that experiences from the past can continue to influence the present. The therapeutic relationship - how we are together - is the most significant factor when determining client outcomes. What this means in a session is that I listen deeply to what you have to say, checking in with you that I am on the right lines, and sharing my thoughts and feelings. Together we find ways to make sense of things and move forwards.
In practical terms my work is based on an informal conversational style that combines open unstructured conversation with psychoeducation, practical techniques and tips according to your need.
I offer a free 20-minute informal ice-breaker where you can ask questions and for us to get a feel of what it would be like to work together. Sessions last for 50 minutes and are available weekdays between 10 and 8. My approach to working with you is relational.
For nearly 20 years I have offered counselling, psychotherapy and supervision to adults and young people in a range of settings, including various NHS adult services, occupational health and work-place counselling. I currently am a tutor at BCPC on the counselling diploma course and offer short-term counselling to young adults in a University Counselling Service. I have a small private practice where I see clients and supervisees.
For relaxation I like to paint, spend time with friends and family, and be out in nature.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
