Paying attention to ‘difficult’ feelings, experiences and situations can feel too painful or frightening. My experience is that if we can give attention to what hurts or troubles us, then it can release energy and tension – physical and emotional. This can help us to start feeling different and better - and to make changes.
I believe that good therapy can support this process, by helping us feel safe enough to explore whatever feels difficult. Talking with a sensitive listener who works to understand our experiences - and who isn’t involved in the rest of our lives - can make a difference.
As a therapist, I try genuinely to understand and accept people and their experiences as they really are, however painful, shameful or ‘trivial’ they might seem to them.
Just as with other relationships, I believe some therapists and clients are a better ‘fit’ than others. I encourage you to talk with several therapists and notice how it feels, before deciding who to start working with.
If you would like a free, 30-minute initial conversation about what you’re looking for and how I work, then please email (rbairdtherapy@protonmail.com).
A bit about me: I have a Master’s in psychotherapy (details below, in case you’re interested) and qualified in 2020. My first degree was in politics, philosophy and economics. I’ve also worked in the media and for charities. Originally I'm from Birmingham but now live in London.
I have regular supervision and develop my knowledge and skills through professional training and literature. From 2019-2024, I volunteered with the Reduced Fee Service at Number 42 - a psychotherapy practice near London Bridge. I am also a full clinical member of UKCP, which is a professional organisation of therapists, whose ethics code I follow.
The details: I have a Master's degree in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Applications from Middlesex University and a diploma in person-centred psychotherapy from Metanoia Institute.
(I repeat this information below/above, due to a quirk of the UKCP website.)
