I was awarded WPF therapy’s postgraduate diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in 2008. This rigorous four year training recognises the importance of past experience and how it shapes current behaviour. I encourage my clients to think and talk about significant childhood experiences and relationships and how those dynamics may have shaped their ways of thinking and feeling about themselves and the world around them. How these dynamics arise in the relationship between the client and therapist is also an extremely useful tool in developing self knowledge.
I see a large part of my role as acting as a “mirror” to enable my clients to see themselves in an honest and clearer light. This leads to greater self-awareness which in turn can lead to positive change with more understanding and control of reactions to life’s challenges.
Although my orientation is psychodynamic, my extensive clinical experience has enabled me to work with a diversity of people and problems and recognise the uniqueness of an individual’s needs. I therefore modify my approach according to what is best suited to each person and draw on other techniques as required (eg I have a certificate in CBT from the Grove Practice in London and training in EMDR - trauma specialism).
I believe that it is often the most challenging times in life that provide us with the opportunity for personal growth and positive change. I find it a privilege to accompany a client at these times.
I am an experienced psychotherapist with over 20 years experience. I worked for many years at organisations such as the Nightingale Hospital, one of the UK's leading mental health clinics, as well as in private practice.
I now work from the west coast of Scotland. Most of my sessions are via Skype / Facetime / Zoom with occasional face-to-face meetings. This method has been valued by clients all over the UK and further afield, combining effective therapy with the ease and convenience of sessions from their own home.
Therapy is an opportunity to better understand how and why one behaves in certain ways, to gain greater control over life and to bring about positive change.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
