Psychotherapy is about emotional resonance. Empathy and rapport are essential preconditions for successful therapy. I am trained in relational body pychotherapy and Gestalt therapy. My work is also informed by psychodynamic understanding. Sessions always begin with exploring your inner world in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental setting. But in body psychotherapy we address feelings of well-being or not-so-well-being as experienced in your body. Therapy can include, when appropriate and with your agreement and understanding, expressive exercises and biodynamic massage, a type of massage that works with the whole person, addressing muscular tensions and bodily sensations that are linked to emotions. I also work a lot with breathing and movement.
There are no magic cures. No therapist can take away your suffering. We will work together to facilitate and deepen your experience of life and to reduce the obstacles to straightforward communication, fulfilling relationships and joyful living.
Fully qualified since 1991, I have many years of experience working with a wide variety of people, helping them to make sense of their lives and to find greater joy and satisfaction in their relationships and their work. I trained at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy in the 1980s. I have supplemented that training with a wide range of professional development workshops, seminars and courses. My practice is also informed by tai chi and yoga, which I have been practising most of my adult life. I am also a musician and a musicologist.
