I'm an integrative psychotherapist combining different ways of working to best serve my clients' unique individual needs and although I now focus on working with parents, I have worked with children for over 25 years, giving me a wealth of experience to draw on to support parents. I don't believe that looking at the child in isolation is helpful enough and as a qualified Family Systems' Practitioner I always look at the bigger picture. Whilst this might sound daunting, I can assure you I tread gently and with sensitivity, finding ways that feel empathic and supportive to you. I also have considerable experience of working with trauma which encompasses experiences such as parental divorce, illness, bereavement, bullying, emotional and physical abuse to name a few. This can impact on your child's well-being but can also bring up difficulties for you as the parent in knowing how to handle it and perhaps mirroring unresolved aspects of your own childhood.
I am familiar with working with issues of self-esteem, diversity, neurodivergence, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and can be there to support you so that you can be there to support your child.
I have a deep interest in working with parents who are struggling to cope with the challenges of raising healthy children. If you are feeling anxious about your child feel free to get in touch as I understand the anguish and sleepless nights caused by worrying about the best way to help and support your child. I work relationally and offering you a safe place to share your concerns is a very important aspect of the work I do. I can provide a place for you to share your innermost concerns without feeling judged and together we can explore useful directions for you to consider in order to instigate healthy changes. Sometimes that means working on the relationship with your child or working on developing aspects of yourself to cope with their behaviour. In particular, I recognise that many parents find adolescence a difficult developmental stage. Whatever the issues, we will find strategies to move forward in areas where you may be feeling stuck.
I have numerous therapy qualifications, including:
Integrative Child Psychotherapist MA UKCP
Certificate in Adult Humanistic Counselling
Family Trauma Institute -Advanced Trauma Training Dip
Clinical Supervision Diploma
Literature and Sociology BA (Hons)
I am a member of the UKCP Professional Body which is important for you to know as it means I work ethically and strive at all times to work in your best interests.
I also have an Enhanced DBS (criminal check) Certificate and have full professional insurance.
Beyond my work supporting parents I also work as a Child Psychotherapist Supervisor offering supervision to individuals, organisations and schools. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience around working within educational systems and can support teachers and child therapists working in this field. I understand the constraints and dynamics of educational environments.
I offer supervision and as a supervisor I bring to my supervisees much wisdom derived from many years of working within schools and with individuals. My recent experience has been in supervising teachers to manage all that they hold from their administrational demands to emotional needs of their pupils, safeguarding challenges, increased demands in relation to SEND pupils and personal anxieties and depression. Burnout is very real for teachers and child therapists today. I work for the mental health charity MIND giving supervision to therapists under their auspices. In addition I work as a supervisor and consultant for a Primary Support Service for primary and secondary schools.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
