I aim to work with each person in a way that is tailored to them. We will explore thoughts, feelings and experiences, as well as the relationship between us. I am able to use a number of therapeutic approaches to work with clients in a non-judgemental, collaborative and creative way. In my experience, building an open and trusting relationship is the most important factor in counselling and psychotherapy.
I am qualified in psychodynamic as well as other therapy approaches and can integrate these to fit your experiences and situation. We would pay attention to what might be outside consciousness as well as to your early significant relationships and the expectations of relationships that you might carry from childhood. I am experienced with clients who have experienced trauma, loss and neglect, early or later in life.
Like all of us, I have experienced challenges in life. And I have always been fascinated by what makes us think, feel and behave in the ways that we do.
In addition to studying the theory and practice of psychotherapy for more than a decade now, I have used counselling and psychotherapy myself. Therapy has provided me with support during personal challenges, greater self-awareness and increasing acceptance of myself and others. It has also challenged me when I needed it – there is always more to learn.
I have worked with adult clients of all ages and from a variety of cultures, races and sexual orientations. I am experienced and comfortable in working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and questioning (LGBTQ) clients.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
