My Approach

As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on the theories that speak to me through their philosophy and practice. While staying focused on your needs and our relationship, I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment theory, and Transactional Analysis, grounded in traditional talking therapy. I bring warmth and creativity to sessions with a collaborative approach; we work together to understand what feels difficult and find ways to help you feel lighter. I help clients reflect on how past pain may resurface, update coping strategies that feel stuck, and move toward a more compassionate, self-supportive way of being. I tailor my approach to each client’s needs while holding a clear framework we define together.

About Me

Hi, I’m Monica, a trauma-informed Integrative Psychotherapist with 30 years’ experience and a 15-year online-only practice, offering UK-wide and international online therapy for adults, including English-speaking expats.

I work with an integrative approach informed by IFS, Attachment theory, and Transactional Analysis, grounded in traditional talking therapy. I support adults 1:1 with a range of issues, including relationship difficulties, trauma (childhood or recent), abuse, depression, anxiety, stress, and bereavement. I also work extensively with NGO and humanitarian professionals navigating the pressures of global life.

With warmth and collaboration, I help clients reflect on past pain, update stuck coping strategies, and move toward a more compassionate, self-supportive way of being. My approach is tailored to each client while maintaining a clear framework we define together.

Prior to starting to practice online, I undertook additional training with Online Counselling and Supervision Training UK (OCST) and the Online Therapy Institute (OTI), and have been a member of ACTO since 2010.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Helping clients make sense of and heal from past and present abusive dynamics, is sadly a big part of my clinical work. Working Integratively, my practical approach is to use a language that most resonates with each individual client. Grounded in traditional talking therapy, I draw from Attachment theories and IFS/parts-informed approaches to facilitate the processing of these difficult events. Transactional Analysis and CBT, also help to address negative beliefs (about Self and others) that may surround these and may benefit from being updated.
I am very comfortable exploring questions of identity and belonging, be if from cultural, racial or social perspectives or indeed struggles with not feeling reflected by our family/social environment. I also work extensively with expats and NGO/humanitarian professionals navigating the transitions and pressures of global life. My own cross-cultural background, having grown up in a Third Culture, and my intercultural therapy training gives me insight into the realities of humanitarian, NGO, and international lifestyles.
We are social beings, so unsurprisingly all areas of relating are very prominent in my client work. Whether struggles come from within a relationship or difficulties finding/forming one, it is also not unusual for these issues to overlap with our past. In these instances, working individually, we explore and 'cross-reference' past and present, to consider areas where early attachments and/or stuckness from painful events and negative views of the Self, could also be informing our relational dynamics in the present. Romantic relationship sometimes take a harmful turn, where we can begin to doubt our perceived reality or struggle to break free from painful dynamics. Seeking a safe and non-judgmental support at this time, can be a most important first step towards healing.
Some events, be they sustained or time-limited, big or 'small', can be so shocking, frightening and painful that they are too much for the psyche to fully process in the moment. As a result, they often become stuck and frozen in time. Even when out of our conscious awareness they can still greatly impact our way of being, feeling and thinking. I offer an Integrated approach (as above) to processing trauma, and I am further informed by EMDR, in which I am trained, though not currently offering.
