My Approach

My approach aims to look beneath the surface of difficult emotions, behaviours and relationships to enable children and their families to better understand themselves and their problems. The therapeutic relationship lies at the heart of the process, putting the young person at the centre, ensuring they are heard and understood through meaningful dialogue.

A confidential and safe space is provided for the child or young person to talk about their feelings and worries, to think about them and to reflect. A range of art forms are also available in sessions which can help facilitate communication and allow aspects of the inner world to become externalized. These include paints/drawing materials, sand-tray, puppets, clay, movement and music. Creative imagination can be used to express inner thoughts and feelings which can then be worked through in a safe and contained way for profound and lasting change.

I hold a certificate in Counselling Skills, a Diploma in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts (2014), and a Clinical Masters Degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy (2018) from The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE). I am working towards my accreditation with UKCP and am a registered member of IATE. I have an enhanced DBS and a Level 1 certificate in Safeguarding Children. I also have a Level 2 certificate in British Sign Language (BSL).
