My Approach

I am committed to helping people find their own agency and power within society and relationships as well as internally. Early experiences will have set up ways of understanding and interacting with the world and this can be usefully revisited in order to feel freer to move forward. I am guided by psychoanalytical theory but also have found systemic and group approaches to be helpful.

About Me

I am a trained psychotherapist with over 40 years of working in the NHS and mental health. I am now working privately. My interests are in trauma, relational difficulties and personality disorder. I am a firm advocate of the importance of relationships in healthy living. I welcome anyone who is wanting to understand themselves more in a safe and contained setting.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Often abuse in childhood or adulthood can impact heavily on one's capacity to l have healthy relationships with others and oneself.
I have witnessed the huge impact that bullying can have on one's life. It is rarely acknowledged and given the importance of other types of abuse or violence and it is imperative that the recipient of bullying can have their experiences validated while also wanting to change the relationship to this experience in order to empower them to move forward.
Our experiences with our parents in early life can hugely impact on our internal messages and templates that lead us to repeat dynamics that are not always helpful in adult lif. Exporing these from a position of curiosity can feel disloyal and painful but ultimately I believe can hugely help free oneself from destructive or damaging patterns in current life.
I believe that early relationships can help or hinder us in our current relationships and revisiting these can be very empowering and helpful.
Trauma of all types can leave a lasting impact that needs careful and safe exploration in order to find ways to heal and reduce the power of the experiences in one's current life.
