I believe it is important to create a good and trusting therapeutic relationship in order to allow space for change. In my work I will spend time getting to know you, your values and the way in which your problem impacts you. This means taking the time to think about how the problem impacts every aspect of your life in order to discover where there is space for change and difference. I believe that working collaboratively with people is the best way to support them. I want to create equality in the therapeutic space where you will feel a sense of agency in regard to your problem as I share my thoughts with you. I will do my best to create a safe space for you. It is hoped that this approach will help you to reach your therapeutic goals. I use a number of techniques from narrative therapies to elements of DBT, CBT and compassionate based therapies amongst others. Due to my experience as a children and families social worker I am experienced in working with complex difficulties with compassion and empathy. This client led/collaborative approach is hoped to support you to discover and develop the strengths you already have and use everyday. As a systemic psychotherapist I am relationship focused. This not only includes your closest interpersonal relationships but how your relationship to how you are in the world. For example, your relationship with your problem, money, your career or whatever might be your strength or difficulties at the time that we start working together .
I am a systemic psychotherapist who has been working in public services with individuals, children, adolescent and families for over 14 years. I began my career as a teenage working in New York state in a cafeteria nursing home. I soon realised my interest in helping others by being with them and I enjoyed listening to peoples stories. Although I was meant to be working in the kitchen I found myself spending time people, giving them some much needed company and doing my best to help them to socialize and have fun. I then worked in residential homes with people with learning difficulties while obtaining my BA in clinical Sociology. I later moved to Boston where I worked in a residential placement for adults with mental health problems. I then moved to the UK in 2008 and obtained my MA in Social Worker (2010) and later my MSC in Systemic Psychotherapy (2020). I have over 10 years of experience working as a children and families social worker and I am currently employed in the NHS supporting children and young people with mental health difficulties. I have always had an interesting in mental health throughout my career.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
