Due to traumatic periods or incidents in your life (even if many years ago), you may be experiencing an invasion of thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares, images or unexplained body sensations. Such experiences can be overwhelming and can either; send you into panic attacks, cause you to react defensively, create a desire in you to escape or cause you to go into a state of freeze. These responses can then send you into despair or depression.
Our work will initially be about understanding what is affecting you, so we can establish the resources and skills to allow you effectively manage these experiences. I will help you take the energy out of engulfing shame that makes you feel as if something is fundamentally wrong with you and can stop you from relating to others in the way you would like.
We use your developing skills and resources to help you manage your bodily responses and thought processes so you can gradually replace self-criticism and hatred with self-compassion and acceptance. I help you positively connect with your body instead of disconnecting from it or seeing your body as your enemy. Your increased self-confidence will help you in decision-making and your relationships with others.
If you would like to discuss these areas more, contact me for an initial session at no cost or obligation but to explore what you are looking for and what I can offer you.
I am a qualified relational psychotherapist and offer one-to-one therapy sessions in a homely confidential space. Together we explore your past experiences and how they affect your life today, looking at unresolved wounds that invade you and how you cope each day.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
