I originally trained as an Existential psychotherapist and have added other modalities such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy. I have also done a Masters Degree in Mindfulness Approaches. I apply concepts related to Mindfulness in my practice as a therapist as well as teaching Mindfulness courses in my place of work.
My background is quite International which helps me to empathize with people from various backgrounds. I was born in Bogota, Colombia and my native language is Spanish. I studied advertising at the university there and graduated in 1988, after that I came to England to learn English and became fluent. I made a decision to stay and become a UK citizen which led me to decide to retrain as a therapist and qualified as a Counsellor and Existential Psychotherapist over 20 years ago.
Recently I trained as a Mindfulness practitioner and completed an MA in Mindfulness Approaches in 2018. This has allowed me to bring some of the psychological concepts into my work and to teach Mindfulness 8 week courses for patients in a clinical context. I have worked with patients in a hospital setting often supporting them to find new meaning in their life as well as supporting them in finding ways of coping with long term conditions and survivaship. Issues people bring to work in therapy with me are varied, such as anxiety, depression, lack of confidence, difficulties in adapting to new situations, stress brought on by work and relationships, abuse and isolation. My approach is eclectic drawing from the many approaches I have learnt and it focuses on the relationship between therapist and client.

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
