I understand that initiating counselling can be a daunting process and offer a free initial telephone call to discuss your concerns. From my own experience I believe counselling to be an enriching and transformative experience.
At the heart of the work lies the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor; I believe it is imperative to get the right 'fit' for you as an individual, with unique needs and experiences. I work in a flexible, safe, supportive, non-judgemental way at a pace to suit you. I believe therapy to be collaborative, where we are both working equally to make sense of your past experiences in the present and to recognise patterns and core beliefs that are keeping you stuck.
My aim is to help you explore the defence mechanisms that you have put in place, what they are protecting from and whether they serve you in the present. By stripping back these layers I hope to help you integrate split off parts and be more fearlessly authentic.
Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a passionate, empathic, down to earth integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor. I am trained in various modalities to tailor individualistic therapy. I fuse theory with a creative approach to enable work at greater depth, revealing disconnected parts of self and unmet needs. I work with a trauma and attachment informed approach and feel the relationship to be at the core of our work together.
I work with individuals and couples.
Advanced Diploma from Matrix College of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling Degree from Middlesex University.
I have 30 years experience as a registered general nurse, including 10 years in critical care. I also have experience in mental health, including working in the early intervention team for psychosis and a low cost counselling service and I currently also work as a senior mental health practitioner in the child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). As a nurse I was curious regarding the psychological impact of physical health conditions and vice-versa, the physical impact of poor mental wellbeing; this led me to training as a counsellor.
I have experience of working with identity and relationship issues, anger, stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, addiction, neurodiversity, abuse, eating disorders and life-altering conditions.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
