My Approach

I am a qualified and accredited Integrative Arts Psychotherapist. This integrative perspective means that in my practice, I draw upon a range of theories and approaches. A holistic approach enables me to fully consider a young person’s history and the wider system around them. This aids my understanding in what may be causing the difficulties bringing them to therapy.

All of my formal therapy training has revolved around the use of different art mediums as a tool to therapy.

I am a trained sandplay therapist (CCPE), and find that the symbolism of play can bring enlightenment that is not possible through the use of language alone.

About Me

I have been working in specialist education since 2002, in a variety of roles within Social Care, Education and Mental Health.

Over the past decade I created and developed a successful bespoke school therapy service; managing a team of therapists and providing psychotherapy to young people referred for support.

I have presented at various national and regional conferences including; The Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties Association (SEBDA); ‘Engage In Their Future’ (formerly the National Association of BESD Schools); The Centre for Child Mental Health (London) and Team Teach.

I have also created and delivered many trainings to school staff and psychotherapy trainees on a wide range on mental health topics and issues including; Managing anger; Supporting grief and bereavement; Understanding self-harm; Working with developmental age; Managing anxiety; Working creatively with trauma; Young people and the digital world; Multi-disciplinary practice and systemic thinking in Child Psychotherapy; and many others.

I contribute to the MA teaching programme at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (London). I am a member of the tutoring and marking team for the MA in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, and am an examiner for students’ final Mental Health exam.

In 2012, I contributed a chapter to Margot Sunderland’s book ‘Helping Teenagers with Anger and Low Self-Esteem’.

I am UKCP accredited Psychotherapist, and a registered member of the BACP.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

This is where my training as a psychotherapist started. I am able to deliver a bespoke anger management programme, have spoken at many conferences about supporting young people with feelings of anger, and have also contributed a chapter to Margot Sunderland's book ‘Helping Teenagers with Anger and Low Self-Esteem’.
Many young people I work with have overwhelming feelings of anxiety. I utilise a combination of creative interventions and cognitive strategies to explore anxiety and help to manage these uncomfortable feelings
I have worked with children and young people for over 20 years, many of whom have experienced complex trauma.
