Hello and thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I believe that what's most important as a therapist is my ability to offer you a caring refuge - a place where you can just be yourself, however that might be, yet with a sense of hope that things can get better. A private, homely place where you can rely on my trustworthiness, warmth and commitment to understanding the world through your eyes.
My overall aim is to help you accept the things you can’t change, or find the inner strength to change the things you can. To support you in gaining self-understanding and a better sense of control over your life, and provide you with everyday coping strategies. This paves the way for exploring other ways of thinking and being, and alternative perspectives on life and relationships.
I use an Integrative approach, remaining open to different schools of thought and research evidence about the most effective ways of helping people. This approach can be adapted to best suit each client, for short or time-limited counselling, or for longer-term, in-depth psychotherapy. Where it is appropriate for an individual's particular needs, I can bring other activities such as mindfulness, body awareness and art/drawing into our sessions.
I really want to understand what each client is hoping to achieve through counselling to make sure I am the right person to provide the help they need, so we can find a way of working together that's right for them, at whatever pace feels comfortable. There will be various opportunities to ask questions when we meet, so you can decide whether you would like to take things further.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
