My approach is Psychodynamic which is informed by Psychoanalytic theory and practice which includes:
• Exploration of how past experiences have an impact on the present
• Relationship dynamics: how you interact with and see yourself and others and the world around you.
• Unconscious processes from dreams to all thoughts, feelings and experiences giving a greater insight into your mind and how it influences choice in your life
I work with many issues including anxiety, depression, medically unexplained symptoms, bereavement, body dysmorphia, disordered eating, social withdrawal, and relationship difficulties.
I provide a safe, relational, non- judgemental, compassionate space for adults of all ages. Individual psychotherapy provides a unique opportunity to talk about anxieties, concerns, symptoms, or traumas in complete privacy. Therapy can be transformative, providing a sense of relief, clarity, and renewed hopefulness.
I have more than 30 years’ experience working people of all ages in my medical role as a GP with a special interest in mental health.
As a result of this role I am very familiar with medical diagnoses such as anxiety and depression and have an interest in the challenges of living with chronic disease, chronic pain and medically unexplained symptoms.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
