Hi, I’m Lin, a qualified and UKCP registered Gestalt Psychotherapist therapist working in Bristol. I create a safe and confidential space for you to explore difficulties in your life. Working with me may help you:
Feel more resourced and supported in your day to day life,
Overcome past traumas and events that hold you back,
Make positive changes to your lifestyle
Gain new insight into addictive or destructive cycles and patterns
Starting therapy is a courageous act and can be a challenging process for many people, as it may involve talking about uncomfortable truths. Gestalt therapy is a warm, kind and challenging approach that emphasises the creative, and experimental.
I offer an initial meeting, at a reduced cost to discuss what you want to work on. It is also an opportunity for us to see if we want to continue (my fees are on my website). I work face-to-face in Montpelier, Bristol. In addition I also offer remote sessions via phone or zoom.
I believe that we are all trying to do the best that we can in the situation that we are in. My personal journey started at University where I encountered my own personal demons. Through a combination of self-help, therapy, and meditation I recovered and developed a strong curiosity in my own psyche and that of others. After that, my career progressed in education and voluntary mental health sector in various roles. The experience that I gained from working with with people was invaluable and taught me the uniqueness of every individual and shared themes like belonging, self-worth and safety. I chose to train in Gestalt Psychotherapy because it brings together body, mind and emotions in the context of the wider environment. Gestalt has helped me be more fully myself in this ever-challenging modern world.
In addition to my Gestalt Training, there are also lot of other important influences in my life. I am a painter who works primarily with acrylics on canvas ranging from abstract to figurative work. I also love music and dance. For me, Gestalt Therapy is an approach that encourages creative conversations and trying out new ways of being. I'm also very open to working with any creative material that people bring.
I am also sensitive to the struggles of equality and diversity, especially gender identity and sexuality as well as racial heritage. For my own well-being, I attend Qi Gong classes which also keeps me linked to my Chinese cultural heritage of Daoist and Buddhist philosophy. From which I value natural landscapes, seasons, and the tranquillity of being by a river or lake.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
