I am an experienced systemic psychotherapist with many years experience of working with children, young people and families; couples and supporting families through the court system in cases of parental alienation. I currently work within the NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in East Sussex as well as managing a busy private practice. I tailor my approach in collaboration with my clients to ensure that the therapy is sufficiently flexible to meets their particular needs. All relationships can run into difficulty from time to time, whether between partners, parents and children, siblings or work colleagues. Problems within our relationships can have a really detrimental impact on our overall wellbeing and lead to anxiety, low mood, irritability and sadness. Very often these tricky points can be reached during periods of transition; the loss of loved ones or when communication is not as clear as it could be. I have found that an individual's sense of not feeling heard, being misunderstood or not feeling validated can all contribute to negative experiences in how communication takes place which can create distance and loneliness. A systemic way of working enables such patterns to be explored in a safe and "non-blaming" way so that the strengths and hopes of the people involved can be drawn upon to resource the process of reconnection and in so doing, restore wellbeing.
I am a trained nurse and health visitor with wide experience of working with families and undertaking child development assessments. I have pursued my education extensively in order to satisfy a desire to learn more in order to improve my clinical practice. For this reason I have a BA(Hons) Social Sciences and BSc Community Health, as well as an MSc in Systemic Psychotherapy and post graduate Systemic Supervision. In order to widen my skill base I am also trained to offer EMDR (eye movement desensitisation reprocessing) for trauma work, Interpersonal Psychotherapy for working with depression and Non-Violent Resistance training to help support families experiencing violence, aggression and severe anxiety. I have also completed the Anna Freud Family Ties approach to supporting clients who are in the throes of legal cases in relation to divided families and contact arrangements - particularly when parental alienation is being quoted.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
