Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I use an integrative psychotherpeutic approach which may include clinical hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and person centered therapy depending on how your anxiety is presented. We will work together to help alleviate any symptoms while dealing with any deeper rooted causes. Hypnotherapy for stress works to create a state of deep relaxation, quite the opposite of when we are feeling stressed out or overwhelmed. It is during this state of relaxation that hypnotherapy can be most effective working to help you alleviate the area of your life causing you to feel stressed. Psychotherapy supports the hypnosis with a cognitive element to help you address any deep rooted causes of the anxiety. Anxiety is an issue for many people, ranging from stress-related issues to feeling completely overwhelmed and unable to cope which in turn may manifest in a panic attack, rage, or very worrying thoughts which all can prevent you living the life you want to live. Therapy is tailored according to your own experience to help you gain control of these fears, the hypnosis sessions will work to alleviate any triggers or situations which may be causing your anxiety.
Migraines, fibromyalgia, tinnitus, IBS, chronic fatigue syndrome and dermatological issues are just some of the many issues that may be exacberated by stress or trauma. Trials are supportive in the use of psychotherapy and in particular clinical hypnotherapy in alleviating these health-related issues. We work together integratively to help you feel better in both mind and body.
Phobias and fears are also forms of anxiety which can cause issues for many people. Tailored according to your own experience, therapy will work to help you gain control of these fears, the hypnosis sessions will work to alleviate any triggers or situations which may be causing your anxiety including phobias such as dental appointments, flying or spiders. Hypnosis and psychotherapy for phobias is also very beneficial when anxiety exists in conjunction with another issue such as depression, self-harming, overeating or agoraphobia. Fears and phobias affect many people in modern society, hypnotherapy offers a way out of these very disruptive conditions.
Left untreated, stress and anxiety may lead to a range of emotional, physical or psychological issues including anxiety, insomnia and depression. Integrative psychotherapy for stress works to identify the underlying causes and your response to that. Techniques to then help you regain control of the stress in your life are all part of the treatment. Whether its family life, workplace stress or another issue that you would like to discuss, then please contact me to find out more about how we can work together using an integrative approach for your stress-related issues, to help you live a more fulfilling less stressed life.
Trauma is any unhealed psychological wound. It’s the response our nervous system has to a frightening and distressing experience. This could be a single event, such as a violent incident, or the culmination of long-term stress, such as from abuse. It is important to emphasise that there are no right or wrong ways to react after a traumatic experience. Everyone’s reactions will be different therefore we will work together to put a treatment plan in place that is right for you. Trauma demands a whole body reaction which can lead to depression, anxiety or dissociation. Treatment then will be holistic and might include a number of interventions to help you. Trauma-focused therapy will be designed to help you manage the impact of traumatic events on your life whether its PTSD, acute stress disorder or complex trauma.
