My Approach

I offer Relationship Therapy to LGBTQ+ and heterosexual couples/partner(s) and family members. To frame and guide our work, I use the approaches and techniques developed within 'Imago Relationship Therapy' and elements from 'Transactional Analysis’. You will learn how you become 'stuck' and how to promote safety and positivity within your relationship(s), to promote your emotional skills, honesty, communication and negotiation. You may be struggling with your connection with each another or might have noticed destructive patterns in how you are communicating. You may have been through an experience of infidelity, a setback in your intimacy or have a dilemma to navigate together. You might have been struggling to say difficult things to one another that need to be said. Therapy can provide a 'practice space' which which to improve how you do this.

Within the individual therapy I offer (online or in-person), I bring discretion, compassion, honesty, professionalism, appropriate challenge & insight. Psychotherapy can help to relieve deep feelings of distress we might be holding. It allows us to become clearer about the people we really are and what changes we want to make. We can understand how we became who we are and learn new ways to both protect and care for ourselves, as well as enable us to improve how we are relating to others.

About Me

I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor working with individuals, young adults, couples/partners (s) and adult family members who wish to make changes, address hurt and find a way forward. I work from a comfortable and independent therapy room based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, situated within Hale House Osteopathy & Multi-Disciplinary Health Care Clinic. Here I offer a welcoming space in which we can explore and resolve difficult issues together.
I have worked within professional mental health roles and social work settings throughout my twenty year career.
I am a Certified Transactional Analyst in the field of Psychotherapy (CTA-P) and am in preparation to certify as a Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (PTSTA) in 2025. I consider myself skilled and competent to work with a wide range of mental health issues and am comfortable in work alongside people with significant distress.
I work with people living with; anxious thoughts and feelings, low moods, people engaging with compulsively harmful behaviours, who may struggle to communicate well or to relate to others, people who are managing numbness or anger, may live with difficult somatic experiences/physical sensations, are going through life adjustment issues due to loss and grief, are coping with trauma responses such as body dysregulation, sleep issues, shame and sexual difficulties. The people I work with have ‘human’ difficulties and their circumstances, political context and social context matters. I work with people diverse in their circumstances, presentations, coping mechanisms, economic circumstances, faiths, professions, health, gender identities and sexual preferences.
