My Approach

I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist , originally trained in Psychosynthesis and integrating other approaches into my work. I've over 30 years experience of working therapeutically with people as individuals and in groups. I have many therapeutic 'tools' in my toolbox, but am always guided by my client as to what works for them as an individual, whether this is trauma work, working with the imagination, exploration of relational patterns or more cognitive and practical approaches.

Everyone seeking therapy wants to find relief from painful feelings, change difficult situations in their lives for the better, find greater contentment and engage more fully in their lives. I have seen that we all have the ability and resources to find greater freedom and happiness in our lives. I've found that one of the most important elements of successful therapy is that the approach is tailored to, and makes sense to you, the client. So at the heart of the way I work is flexibility and being guided by my client's feedback, their goals, resources, preferences and what works for them as unique individuals.

As well as an interest in working with trauma and early life difficulties. After working for many years in Universities with students and young people over the age of 16, I feel I very much understand the challenges they are dealing with and enjoy working with them.

I currently work online only.

About Me

With over thirty years experience, I offer a flexible and friendly approach which draws on wide knowledge of different therapeutic approaches to suit people's different needs and goals in therapy, including EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) within an Integrative Psychotherapy framework.

Over those years I've integrated many different therapeutic perspectives and techniques into the way I practise. I like to foster people's strengths and aim to work with them to uncover resources they may not even realise they possess. I have found that with some time to think, people can discover their own unique solutions to the difficulties they face, however deep and challenging they may be. I see therapy as a collaborative endeavour where 'no one size fits all' but it must be tailored to the individual. Above all the proof the the pudding in therapy is that the changes the person wants in their life can be seen to be happening.

Therapeutic perspectives I bring into my work are psychosynthesis, Attachment Informed EMDR. Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT and ACT, Mindfulness, creative work, Self Compassion therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Kiloby Inquiries, psychodynamic perspectives and I've also trained in groupwork.

I also work with groups and am a qualified supervisor experienced in working in different settings. I work using 'supervisee centred supervision' being guided by the needs and wants of my supervisees and encouraging them to develop and work from their strengths. I'm also able to offer a wide variety of perspectives on client work.

I enjoy working with people short term, and can offer single sessions, brief contracts or longer term work.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I specialise in working with anxiety issues and will use whichever approach is most effective for the individual.
I use EMDR and Attachment Informed EMDR for recent and historical trauma, and relational trauma. I blend this with an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach.
As a long time meditator myself, I have a particular interest in working with issues of spirituality of any faith or for those who follow a path of secular spirituality.
I've been supervising for 23 years and like to encourage my supervisees to get to know and develop their strengths. I like to think my style is dynamic, interactive and flexible, and tailored to each individual supervisee. I've supervised counsellors and psychotherapists from different modalities and in different settings including private practice, bereavement services, trainee therapists, voluntary agencies and I do both individual and group supervision.
I'm trained in EMDR, a NICE approved therapy for trauma and also use an Internal Family Systems informed approach which I've found also to be very helpful with trauma, particularly complex trauma. I also blend this with an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach.
