If this is your first experience of therapy, it can feel a bit daunting. Please don’t worry.
The first appointment is an assessment session, which gives me a chance to check that I am the best person to help you and gives you a chance to work out if this type of counselling feels comfortable and right for you. Often it is the first time people have spoken about their situation and it might be that you won’t want to tell me everything straight away. That is fine too.
Sessions will move at a pace that you are happy with. Those first appointments help me understand what has brought you to therapy and to identify any desired outcomes. For couples, individual sessions will always be offered to allow space for each person to explain what is happening for them. For psychosexual treatment, appropriate discussions and psychoeducation of a sexual nature are likely to be part of the sessions.
I am an integrative psychotherapist who specialises in working with individuals and couples with relationship or intimacy concerns. The type of issues I support include sexual dysfunction or problematic sexual behaviours, communication problems, affairs and betrayals, sexual assault or abuse, chronic stress and loneliness.
I have a PhD in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Post Grad Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy, a University Advanced Diploma in Couples Counselling and qualifications in trauma and clinical supervision. My research interests are in stress, sexual functioning and trauma.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
