Finding the right type of help for your emotional health and wellbeing can be confusing and difficult, especially as decisions about help seeking might come during a stressful time or life event. There are no easy answers, and there are some wrong answers that can actually be damaging. Using the skill and knowledge that I have gained over the past 27 years, working within the NHS, the voluntary sector and private practice, I can help you find the best path for your particular difficulties. Sometimes this means that I will point you in a different direction rather than providing psychotherapy myself. For common mental health difficulties I follow the NICE Guidance.
My particular specialism is medium to longer term psychotherapy for people who want to learn more about themselves and understand themselves, and gain insight into their emotional life and behaviour. I can provide a weekly, or more intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapy experience. Sometimes my clients seek short term help for symptoms through CBT and then come back to me for a longer look at themselves.
I start from a position of being committed to equality and recognise the struggle that people sometimes have with themselves. I work to help people remove the internal barriers to self acceptance and confidence.
I developed skill in psychotherapy over the last 27 years whilst working in the NHS and voluntary sector. As well as my NHS roles I have also worked at the Anna Freud Centre in Hampstead, helping adults, parents, families and young people with a range of issues. I have developed skills in a mentalization based approach and integrated these into my psychoanalytic clinical practice. I continue to teach professionals from a range of disciplines at the Anna Freud Centre and across the world.
I am a qualified and registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist having completed the Master of Clinical Science in Psychotherapy (MClinSci) and I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I have also completed a Master of Science (MSc) in The Psychodynamics of Human Development with the British Association of Psychotherapy and University of London.
I have experience helping people with a range of difficulties including:
relationship issues
trauma
past abuse
LGBT+
depression
anxiety
anger management
bereavement
personality disorders
couples
parenting and family difficulties
I have worked with people of both genders and across the age span from adolescents to people in later life.
I am a reliable and consistent person with the skills to listen and help you gain an understanding of your difficulties.
Here is some recent feedback from a client
"I'd just like to pass on to you how much I really valued the sessions with you. I think they have really helped both of us. It was really nice to feel like we were leaving on a bit of a high note as well. We still have work to do, but I feel that overall we are communicating with each other in a much better way. So thank you so much for that. I have actually passed your details on to a friend of mine............."
“Thank you so much for our work together in supervision. I really value and benefit from your equanimity, pragmatism, and compassion. I am grateful for the generosity with which you share your clear thinking, expertise and knowledge - sound anchors in what can be choppy seas. I look forward to our sessions, which are collaborative, enabling safe, robust and help me ‘re-boot’ my mind so that I can help better. I trust you and I feel confident bringing complex and sensitive issues for genuine reflection and evaluation. I have grown professionally and personally as a result of our work together over the last four years. Thankyou for continuing to be by my side with challenge where it’s due and support when I need it.”
