Lots of my work has been with working with families and couples as well as individuals, working with families with children with behavioural/emotional issues and those who have experienced trauma, grief and loss, working cross-culturally, looking at conflicts in different beliefs and loss of identity, conflicts in ideas and ways of parenting, the struggles that we can have with unsupportive families or different interpretations of a situation related to differing culture or values, as well as working with GSDR communities, being LGBT+-friendly, and exploring and working towards, for example, liberation from shame.
I have specialist training in working with trauma as well as working with survivors of sexual abuse and am passionately committed to supporting survivors in their journey towards healing.
As a therapist, I work to make sure my relationship with you holds and contains a psychological space for you, making it easier for you to do that with others.
I love working alongside people from many walks of life as you go on your journey, perhaps connecting with what your body knows and how you feel.
Therapy offers opportunities to learn about yourself and in family/couple work, your family or partner/s, practice new ways of being and new skills, work through problematic thoughts and inter/actions and discover your strengths, individually or as a couple or family.
Some of the issues that I’ve worked with include anxiety, low mood, bereavement and trauma/c-ptsd, work place trauma, stress, problems with trust and anger, conflict, rejection, micro-aggressions and internalised oppression.
Hello, I’m Jo, a UKCP registered Systemic and Family Psychotherapist who works with individuals, couples, groups and families. I have with over 17 years’ experience working with people from many different backgrounds, helping you to work through mental health difficulties, find transformational personal insight and supporting you to heal.
As a systemic psychotherapist, I think about problems being relational and that relational solutions are often helpful, that problems arise between people (or organisations) – rather than locating problems inside people, which helps me take a position that’s non-blaming, considers responsibility and choice, is respectful and appreciative of strengths.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
