I am a UK trained Psychotherapist, MBACP Counsellor, EMDR Practitioner, Certified Transactional Analyst (P).
As well as psychodynamic therapy, I integrate EMDR, Eye-Movement Desensitization Processing into my work.
“Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders” (EMDRIA.ORG). I am an approved therapist of the EMDR Association of Hong Kong.
I have facilitated process groups for individuals who were struggling with bereavement and grief. I recognize how isolating grief can be and the impact this has upon people and their relationships with others.
I can offer short term work and long term psychotherapy.
My approach in my work with couples is from a psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and systemic approach (trained with Relate).
I am a native English speaker and can also work with clients who are Deaf and use British Sign Language.
I have been described as an empathic, warm, and compassionate Psychotherapist. I work with clients to explore the underlying aspects of themselves they may not always be aware of, to understand how they see themselves, how they deal with others and see the world. I work with clients to understand why they keep behaving or thinking in a particular way, or why certain things keep happening to them (for example repetitive patterns in relationships).
I work with clients so that together we can try to understand the influence past experiences in life have had on them and how it impacts them in the present day. I believe that when a client has awareness of this, they can move towards changing these patterns of behaviour.
I have experience of working with clients with a range of presenting issues including working with traumatic events, both cumulative and single events, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, lack of confidence, struggling with decision making, grief, relationship issues, transitions.
I have experience of working within the NHS in an IAPT service, During my work within the IAPT service I facilitated bereavement groups, creating a space where people could come together to start to process their grief. I also have experience of working as a Psychotherapist within the Gynaecological Oncology team at University College London Hospitals.
I have experience of working as a Psychotherapist in Hong Kong and I understand the high pressure of work within certain industries and the impact that this has on clients.
