My Approach

As a Systemic Psychotherapist (or Family / Couples therapist), I will work flexibly and creatively with you all in how we meet the need of your particular difficulties. Whilst at first it may feel preferable and easier for you to work individually, our aim will be to bring important people together into the room to listen, observe and have those difficult conversations that are so hard to have at home - in a way that offers new experiences and different outcomes.

As well as those present in the room, we will be working with appreciation of your family of origin and transgenerational themes.

There will be aspects between us that will be different, in terms of our backgrounds, beliefs and experiences. Systemic approaches are particularly attentive to how difference and diversity can help us to better understand each other.

Whilst there has been growing efficacy from on-line therapy since the pandemic, this clinic offers face to face sessions for couples and families on Saturdays, in Buckinghamshire.

About Me

Systemic Family Therapy (more formally known as Systemic Psychotherapy), helps us to improve our relationships with the important people in our lives, and with ourselves. As such I work with families, couples and individuals. Systemic approaches recognise that who we are and how we feel is always in relation to who and what is around us, both in the here and now, and in our pasts. Our relationships are central to our well-being. Thus, when they struggle, our well-being does too, and sometimes we may need a little extra help to restore things.

I have 15 years of experience of working with both adults and children in the mental health sector, both privately and in the NHS. I am also an approved Supervisor of Systemic Psychotherapy. Alongside my current NHS practice as a Lead Systemic Psychotherapist in a CAMHS setting, I run a small private practice based in Buckinghamshire.

I work with

  • Children and young people
  • Couples
  • Families
  • Groups
  • Individuals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have extensive experience of working with neuro-diverse individuals. Often these people are at greater risk of suffering from their mental health, given the demands of living in a world that privileges neuro-typical functionning. My particular specialisms are autism, ADHD / attention deficit disorders. dyspraxia, and learning differences such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. I may work with families in particular who are adjusting to the new knowledge that they or their child may be neuro-diverse. These are not mental health disorders, but hidden disabilities than can cause great distress to an individual, which can then result in suffering with their mental health. Please note that whilst I am neuro-typical, my family is extensively neuro-diverse.
Working through issues such as relationship breakdown, challenges with intimacy, infidelity, coping with chronic mental or physical health difficulties, or managing a separation.
Supporting families with a wide variety of challenges such as ; emotional and behavioural challenges, chronic mental and physical health issues, life cycle transitions, managing loss, adjusting to new family members, parenting, sibling issues, kinship care, coping with adversity, recovering from trauma and grief.
Having worked extensively in both secure inpatient settings, and community settings, I have experience across a wide breadth of mental illness, such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders and eating disorders. I may work with just individuals, or with their families and their partners as required.
I am an approved Supervisor of Systemic Practice, with The Association of Family Therapy.
