I work with individual adults and young adults (age 16-18); I tend to work face-to-face in an open-ended way but can offer both online therapy and/or short-term contracts. My clients come with a variety of difficulties, e.g. depression, anxiety, relationship issues, bereavement etc. I aim to build a helpful working alliance with my clients through careful listening and empathy; I try to hold a non-judgemental position that I hope will begin to build trust and allow my clients to explore their emotional world. I use different developmental ideas to consider how early relational trauma impacts current relationships including with me; how unconscious internal conflicts may impact behaviour and an awareness of how defences may have been put into place at an earlier point to protect my client from anxiety or other intense emotional experiences. I might make links between the past and present, the mind and the body, thinking and feeling but also to help my client explore their patterns in relating to me through direct observation of my experience of our relationship. I hope all this helps my client build more of an emotional narrative for themselves and that they can begin to use their growing confidence in exploring their relationship with me with relating more authentically in external relationships.
I am very committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and am interested in exploring my clients' lived experiences around marginalisation, difference and power structures including in the therapy room.
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist in private practice for over 20 years. I trained at The Minster Centre in both psychotherapy and supervision. I also work as a tutor at The Minster Centre for many years and really enjoy my work with therapy trainees.
