I use an integrative approach to therapy. Integrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy that combines different therapeutic tools and approaches to fit the needs of each individual client. Within the integrative approach, I utilise the following:
Humanistic Approach
This approach emphasises each individual’s personal worth and the creative, active nature of human beings. It is an optimistic approach in that it focuses on the human capacity to overcome hardship, pain and despair.
Person-centred Approach
This is where therapy moves away from the idea that the therapist is the expert and rather towards trusting the innate tendency and ability of human beings to fulfil their own personal life goals. It also includes being open to experience, being trusting and trustworthy, being curious about the world, and being creative and compassionate.
Transactional Analysis
TA is about identifying which ego states (a set of related behaviours, thoughts and feelings) are present in your transactions (an interaction between two or more people) so that you can become more conscious of your thoughts and behaviours, and ultimately have better, more constructive transactions with the people closest to you. Autonomy is the focus of treatment and when the clients have achieved this they also have the power to make new decisions that are unlike the choices they were making before.
Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapy connects a person’s mind and body to apply psychotherapy during treatment. Therapists who practice somatic therapy believe a person’s inner feelings impact their physical form – they use mind-body exercises to release pent-up trauma from the mind and the body. By releasing these bodily sensations, a therapist works towards healing trauma from the inside out.
Hi, I’m Janine. I work as a psychotherapist and counsellor online. I’ve been practicing in the UK since 2006. I now live in Sweden and continue to help those in need of therapeutic support in English, wherever they are located. I have worked for charities, for a therapeutic community (for those transitioning from hospital back to the community) and in private practice.
I currently have availability in group therapy. Please see my website for more details.
My training, while primarily in Transactional Analysis, provided me with a varied toolkit covering a wide range of integrative therapeutic approaches. I am passionate about helping people to make lasting, positive changes in their lives and always aim to support you with the deepest respect and compassion.
I’m originally from South Africa. I lived in the UK for 13 years, and I now live in Sweden. I’m deeply familiar with issues around culture, race, difference, trauma, as well as the emotional and practical challenges for internationals of moving to, and settling in a new country.
I am also particularly interested in trauma and how this can create lifelong challenges in adulthood – both in terms of PTSD, complex/childhood trauma and abuse in relationships.
My training background:
- MSc in Psychotherapy (awarded by Middlesex University)
- Diploma in TA Psychotherapy (awarded by Metanoia Institute)
- Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling/Coaching (awarded by Metanoia Institute)
- Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) (awarded by EATA)
- UKCP accreditation
- Othmer Method Neurofeedback (EEG Info Europe)
