Many people who seek counselling and psychotherapy are uncertain about how these services may be able to help them. I offer an initial free telephone consultation to find out more about you and the difficulties you are experiencing to help you decide whether I am the right person to help you. My therapeutic approach is to work collaboratively with you to help you reach a better understanding of the problems you are experiencing and to identify possible ways forward. I have a professional background in mental health nursing and social work with children and families. I currently work as a psychotherapist with adult clients only.
My core training as a Psychotherapist is in Transactional Analysis which focuses on raising awareness of how our thoughts, beliefs and feelings about ourselves and others may impact on the problems we are currently facing. I integrate cognitive behavioural and solution focused approaches when these appear helpful.
I have particular experience and interest in working with issues relating to trauma and abuse (PTSD/childhood abuse/rape and sexual assault). I also have experience in working with a range of mental health problems (depression/anxiety/phobias/OCD/eating disorders); bereavement and loss associated with chronic illness and disability.
I have a therapy room at Antioch House, 66 Crossgate, Durham DH1 4PR.
I offer a free (30 minute) telephone consultation, by appointment, to discuss your therapeutic needs and to explain the approach I would take in any subsequent sessions offered.
I am now offering in person, online and telephone counselling sessions for existing and new clients.
Telephone sessions are by appointment and last for 50 minutes. I will call you at the time of the appointment on your preferred telephone number. It is important that you are in a location where you feel comfortable and where you are confident you can talk confidentially without interruption.
I offer online counselling session via Zoom, which is an App you can download for free on your laptop, home computer, tablet or mobile phone. This involves access to the internet and can involve a telephone call, or video call which enables us see each other as we speak. These sessions are also by appointment and last for 50 minutes.
If you have any queries about these forms of counselling then please feel free to contact me.
