My Approach

We all need to feel safe and secure enough to learn. Some children/ people can feel anxious just being in school and the challenge of learning can provoke uncomfortable feelings or fear. Learning is a form of growth, where risk taking is fundamental and mistakes are a necessary part of the process. Whether addressing issues about school, uni/college or family/friendship groups, I build a relationship with the young person in order to explore what the emotional barriers to growth are, such as untreated trauma, an undiagnosed learning difficulty, a need for appropriate social or emotional skills, confusion about identity, culture and society. When a young person has lost confidence or motivation, learning stops and growth is interrupted. Psychotherapy helps to remove or lessen those barriers, so that the young person can continue along that path towards greater independence and adulthood.

About Me

After a career in teaching, I specialised in SEN and then became an advisory teacher in schools and in CAMHS around children's socal, emtional and mental health needs. I have worked in various inner London boroughs and in Oxfordhsire. I went on to train as a psychotherapist, working with children and young people and their families from different social and cultural backgrounds. I believe it’s important to work with parents, as teaching and learning first happens at home in the family. I also devise and deliver training for staff groups, offer group supervision and supervise psychotherapists in training. For many years, I was the course director for an M.A. Educational Psychotherapy with the Caspari Foundation.
