My name is Helen, I am an Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist providing support to children, adolescents and their families. Sometimes things happen to children and young people that are just too painful or frightening for them to feel and think about on their own, they need someone to help them. And while many children need help to think about their feelings, others need help to discover their feelings in the first place. Time and space to reflect with an adult who is good at listening can be so beneficial.
I am passionate about helping children and teenagers overcome their personal struggles. I use an integrative approach in acknowledgement that humans are complex beings and there is not a ‘one size fits all’ method. My approach is creative and relational as I believe these are essential for building a fulfilling life. Children often struggle to verbalise what they are feeling so I help them to explore using different types of creative media. From puppets, to painting and drawing, clay work, sand play, music and drama. I listen using my ears, my eyes, my knowledge, my experience, my instincts and my heart.
Individual work with parents can also be undertaken. This can often help parents talk about their everyday struggles more openly and provide an opportunity to reflect on their parenting styles and own experiences of being parented in a confidential setting. I have a keen interest in the mother/father baby bond and can help new parents with any concerns in this regard.
