My Approach

Hi, I'm Hayden and I offer an open and judgement free space to explore whatever’s going on for you. I have worked with a wide variety of people from all backgrounds in previous NHS roles since 2006, as well as in private practice since 2020.

You might be wondering what makes Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) different? Together, we will work on identifying and changing stuck relational patterns that you get into with other people. These can be with your work colleagues, your friends, family, or indeed your intimate relationships. But often, the most important relationship we will work on will be your relationship with yourself.

We will focus on exploring the root cause of your problems and where they stem from, rather than spending all of the time on managing how you feel about it. I refer to this as 'helping to resolve patterns, not just problems'.

By exploring your history, we create a personalised therapy map to guide you through these relationships, increasing your awareness and setting goals that you can work on in between sessions.

While I don't offer additional standalone therapies, I am qualified in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and I'm familiar with many Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques, which can be helpful to weave into our work together as needed too.

About Me

Sometimes people can worry about HOW or WHERE to begin. As a Cognitive Analytic Psychotherapist, I will help you get the most from your sessions by asking you questions or sharing my thoughts or feelings about what we discuss. This way, we can build a real, trusting therapist and patient relationship to make the work safe, but also hopefully lighthearted when you need it.

Being UKCP registered also means that my practice is independently accredited and regulated, giving you assurance of a safe, ethical, and evidence-based approach to our work together. In addition to this, I’ve also worked in healthcare since 2006, mainly in the community, with children, families, and adults. My prior training before Psychotherapy was as a Learning Disability and Mental Health Nurse, and I bring all of this experience into my practice with me now.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked with many clients who have tried different ways of managing their anxiety and are looking to now deepen their understanding of where it stems from in the hope of longer term recovery.
I spent many years working in Child Adolescent Mental Health services and have a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on our sense of self, which is sometimes labelled as a personality disorder. I offer an empathic and genuine approach to working with people who are survivors of childhood abuse or trauma.
In addition to being a Psychotherapist, I also hold a registration as a Mental Health Nurse and have extensive experience and understanding of severe and enduring or complex mental health presentations.
CAT at it's heart is a relational therapy and can help you to think about how you relate to others, including loved ones and where and how change might be possible.
I welcome and work with people from all backgrounds, but as a gay man myself, I also know that it can be helpful sometimes to find a therapist who has a personal understanding of this. I am therefore also available to work with people who are gay, bisexual or questioning of their sexuality.
