It can be helpful to to know that there is not one 'right' way or specific 'real' reason to start therapy. As a person-centred psychotherapist, I will help you engage with what is essential to and for you. Whilst some people approach therapy with one specific issue to explore and work on, it is not unusual to feel there are different issues to bring.
The following highlights some specific areas I am experienced in working with people on:
* Support for learners, researchers, and those working in adult education: I have experience working with students and researchers as a counsellor and have a track record as an academic working in higher education. I bring my knowledge of University spaces and processes to support students and staff accessing therapy to thrive (and not just survive) in academic environments.
* Support for professionals addressing career-relevant challenges: Clients can be seeking to focus on their professional development, so you may be looking to improve your sense of purpose and presence in your professional space or make changes in relation to (including seeking to return to) employment.
* Personal and family experience of disability (including mental distress)
I’m Harriet, and I could be the therapist for you if you are looking to make time on a weekly basis to connect with your own feelings, experiences, thoughts, values, wants and needs. I don't offer a prescriptive approach. Paths forward aren't found by following someone else's map but by developing self-knowledge and confidence to take more ownership of your own direction. When life is challenging a therapist can support you to have space and opportunity to do that.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
