My Approach

I specialise in working with complex mental health symptoms through a three-tier treatment model, aiming to shift and relieve symptoms on a neurobiological and somatic level.

In sessions I focus on the need to establish safety and stability in your nervous system supported through developing skills in psychoeducation, mindfulness and increasing upon your capacity to become more embodied. You will be central to forming the rhythm and pace of your recovery in collaboration with my expertise.

When you are ready and with increasing capacity we can begin to focus more on processing the emotional and somatic based remnants of your past experiences in the nervous system. Leading to fuller integration in your sense of self. With specific interest in ‘IFS for Trauma’, structural disassociation and treating psychosexual complexities.

In my practice I work with an integrative theoretical model woven alongside the use of the expressive arts. I facilitate connection with your visual, bodily, and relational experience, leading to a bespoke understanding of their therapeutic process. This creative therapeutic alliance is achieved using Sandtray, music, movement, sculpture, painting and drawing, poetry, creative writing, drama, play, and connection with nature. Use of the arts is optional.

In the past I have worked with complex behavioural needs and disabilities within adolescents and adults. And as a group facilitator in a Therapeutic Community for EUPD, on secure wards for elderly patients, supporting them to access connection with arts and self-expression. I have worked as a Trauma Therapist at Khiron Clinics since November 2018, and currently maintain a role as Primary Trauma Therapist. In this role I have been delivering 1to1s and a wide array of groups. With access to supervision from international leads in the trauma field, such as Deb Dana, Colleen De-Rango, Ditte Marcher and Janina Fisher. I will be leaving this place of work in September 2021, to establish my private practice full time. Where I welcome those seeking support for their mind-body health.

In sessions I focus on the need to establish safety and stability in your nervous system through developing skills in mindfulness, multidimensional thinking and feeling, psychoeducation and self-expression from the mind and body connection. Once stabilised we can begin to deepen into processing your wants, needs, dreams and fears. I have a wealth of experience working with those in crisis suffering from lack of focus, lack of mobility, stuck in survival responses and loss of hope. With my aptitude to retain regulation and vision I help guide others into theirs. We each need vision, without vision autonomy becomes illusive, and we merge facelessly into a system we can then result in resenting as we have been unable to individuate into our own potential. Developing upon self-expression, communication skills and self-regulation will aid the development of this individuation and development of trust in self and others. In my practice I work with an integrative theoretical model woven alongside the use of the expressive arts. It is in my best interest to support you to begin envisaging how you would like to use the resources available to you in the therapeutic relationship to begin transforming your life.
With specific interest in ‘IFS’, parts, and systemic constellations my approach is to bring a micro and macro aid to the challenges you are facing. I facilitate connection with an individual’s visual, bodily, and relational experience, leading to a bespoke understanding of their therapeutic process.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have experience of working with CPTSD, whilst working at Khiron Clinics, a residential trauma clinic from November 2018 - September 2021. I support survivors of emotional, sexual, spiritual, physical abuse in my practice by utilising body-based approaches to re-integrate the body and mind together. Whilst at this place of work I received supervision from the leads in the trauma field such as Janina Fisher and Deb Dana. Who support the work of IFS, structural Dissociation and Polyvagal Theory.
When pulling upon the physiology of our survival responses, found in the Polyvagal Theory, we can deepen an understanding of your physiology and psychology to better understand the presentation of the sympathetic nervous system strand found in anxiety. We would call this hyper-arousal.
When pulling upon the physiology of our survival responses, found in the Polyvagal Theory, we can deepen an understanding of your physiology and psychology to better understand the presentation of the dorsal nervous system strand found in depression. We would call this hypo-arousal.
I have been working with survivors of complex abuse and supporting the after effects of abuse upon the development of building healthy sexual bonds. Supporting any client interested to integrate and deepen into their own sexual identity, using the following themes: Trust Safety Boundaries Sensory Consent The 'I' position
I follow the three-tier approach to treating trauma which is: 1. Working on establishing safety and stability 'STABILSATION' in the nervous system and parts. 2. Then moving into 'PROCESSING' somatic/sensory and parts-based themes within the body and mind. 3. The final stage of trauma treatment is described as 'REINTEGRATION'. This describes the process of bringing into more conscious awareness and collaboration between the body, mind and parts system.
