I have been working in the field of psychology for over 30 years, much of it with victims of all types of trauma. Trauma often results in addictions, compulsions, phobias, whether stemming from accidents, violence and abuse (mental, physical and sexual at any stage of life) or even upsetting medical procedures. I have had many clients who are adult survivors of childhood abuse. Trauma can be of neglect, physical, mental or sex abuse. The affects can manifest in many ways; some obvious and some less so not unusually emerging many years after the abuse has stopped. A sense or feeling of not thriving or feeling 'stuck' in life; addictions and cravings for alcohol, smoking, gambling, sex, unhealthy eating, chocolate, pornography and of course drugs. My clients also include military veterans suffering the effects of PTSD and other mental impairments.
I employ contemporary techniques such as EMDR, Brainspotting and Dr Robert Miller's revolutionary Feeling State Addictions Protocol (FSAP) and Feeling State Image Protocol (FSIP) (www.fsaprotocol.com). Addicts can in many cases return to 'normal' behaviour once compulsions and cravings have been desensitised. People are not born with addictions. Some event(s) in their lives triggered the addiction. When these events are found and their affects neutralised, the cravings will dissipate. For many, where FSAP/FSIP succeeds, addiction is no longer the life sentence it once was. Alcoholics can return to social drinking, gamblers can have the occasional flutter, and chocoholics the occasional truffle.
For phobias and the affects of trauma, I employ a therapeutic mix of EMDR, Brainspotting, Clinical hypnosis, and psycho-dynamics (looking at early years). The aim is to carefully extinguish unwanted outcomes as quickly and as gently as possible. My clients tell me that I am sensitive to their needs and flexible in my approach to ensure their enduring therapeutic success.
My qualifications include a Master of Science in psychology from the University of Leicester; Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in psychotherapy from the National College as well as specialist qualifications in the modalities outlined above. To help those whose intimate lives have unfortunately been impacted by trauma of a sexual nature, I am trained to Certificate level in PsychoSexual Therapy; I have Graduate Member status with the British Psychological Society. I am also a published author and an amateur musician who is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians and a Freeman of the City of London.
(Please note that I do not maintain an on-line presence other than with professional psychotherapy web sites such as this one).
My fees for a 60-90 minute session are £130 in Sevenoaks and online. I carry out a great of work online here in the UK and in numerous countries - excluding USA and Canada for insurance cover reasons.
